Star is my take-it-easy guru.

Generally I get nervous before teaching yoga. I prepare for days, usually, but lately I've been a little more cultivated in my approach. Even more than preparing the sequences, it seems to me, is to prepare myself. I'm showing up in a more relaxed state. Calmer. Less afraid of not garnering approval.

And, more than ever, willing to try new-to-me sequences and poses. For example, since I quit teaching Bikram in 2005, I've never again taught Utkatasana. It's an all around pose bummer, so you know, why bother. In the back on my mind I believe people will like my class better because there's never Utkatasana.

Lately Utkatasana has been showing up everywhere. And the lack of it, in my giggly inner thighs. So I've busted it out again, and offering it in classes.

Like magic, just as my book proposal is beginning to hit the light of day, life itself it busting at the seams in new directions, too.
