I want to learn how to do handstand in the middle of the room. The thought consumes me, as far as yoga poses go.  I can do it at the wall, but can barely attempt the shape sans wall. Its very curious to me why this occurs, even though I know it’s a block in my mind. How do these mental blocks get so thick and entangled?

Yogis teach us that what you focus on matters, I’ve been focusing on asking myself what’s holding me back.

In our private session Nicki offered a set a drills and prep poses mimicking the actions for handstand in the middle of the room.  When we were ready for the whole enchilanda, she said “your body already knows the shape, so just do it”.  She said it in a casual way but her eyes sparkled as she said it , like the eyes whose seen this Truth from experience.

I didn’t pop into full handstand in the center of the room but I did get a lot closer. More importantly her instructions make the work of handstand fun again and began to remove the burden of “I Can’t”.  Focusing and truly accepting what already is, is the deeper practice of yoga.

Sages for thousands of years have been trying their best to help us see what is. Love is, beauty is, God is, handstand is.  And we are all of that too.

The practice is to get out of our own way. Over and over again, that is the practice, and it is super helpful when you have friends who, through the Truth of there being, hold you steady and strong along the way.
