Maui is so gorgeous and so magical, day in and day out, day after day, rain or shine. When you're here for a while, and I've been lucky to be here for a full 7 months now, it can be easy to lose sight of the raw, spectacular beauty of this island.

The mind is actually wired to cling more to pain than it does to pleasure. Joy, peace, happiness, love, gratitude..these attitudes actually take practice.

Before class this morning, the Sunday yogi and I were in the presence of a baby. The cutest, cuddliest little bundle of joy you can imagine. I became transfixed, among all things, with his toes. They are the most perfect shade of pink, with just the most elegant curl in his toes; his baby fat so precious it was all I could do to stand my social distance and not clamour forward to give those toes a little squeeze. It was all so heartwarming, I actually noticed how good it made me feel to be in the presence of such adorableness.

So when it came to our yoga class, the poses we so secondary. Our primary alignment? The incredible, magical, exquisite beauty of a baby's toes. We did several postures we usually do, and maybe we're getting better at the poses, but I think what's really going on is that we are getting better at aligning with joy.
