Star is her blissness was my class mascot today.

The studio changed the name of this class from Flow and Restore to Bliss Body Yoga. The practices are similar to what we’ve been doing all along, for all the teachings of yoga are here, as sutra 1.3 says, to help us experience a deeper truth. The koshas in the Taittirya Upanishad give us a model of deeper truths by mapping our five layers of being, or koshas (pancha kosha).

Each layer incorporates the sanscrit word “maya”, which is often translated as illusion. But it’s also translated as magic. While there is a tendency to relegate certain layers as more spiritual than others, the play is to experience all of them; our wholeness. One of the definitions of yoga is “integration” and our being in this world requires we function on all cylinders.. The body is the temple of the spirit , as it says in 1st Corinthians 6:19.

What can be tricky, however, is an over reliance on the more ego based koshas, and it’s sticky territory indeed. To have faith and trust and surrender because ultimately “all there is is Love (Krishna)”, as it says in the Gita, takes massive amounts of practice.

Self study is translated as study of the texts , and also equally powerful self study. Sages say all our answers are found inside, but the texts and such sure are great maps to help us find the way.
