The very first Patanjali yoga sutra is "Atha Yoga Anushasanam". One translation is "here and now, let the teachings of yoga begin". The practices are designed to bring us into the present moment. There are a lot of reasons for this, one of them is that the present is the only Truth and Real that there is. My current favorite excuse to be a yogi is to be in Love as much of the time as possible, so I try to be in 'atha yoga anushasanam' for real, which is easier to do when life is calm.

While I usually write about how the practices of yoga help me to be at home in your own heart on a Rock N Roll tour, what's more interesting and much more difficult lately, is how to be home when I'm at home. Part of the problem is that I don't really have a home to hold me. The remodel is difficult to endure.

Kymberlee translated "atha" as 'something has had to happen', meaning some event in  our life will bring us to the realization that it is temporary and not real at all.

In my case, the remodel. Which in the end isn't the problem at all, its the solution.

One of the definitions of the highest self, Purusha, is "City Filled With Calm". One of the ways  I'm dealing with remodeling is creating clean livable space where I can. It doesn't last long. But either does my mind so it does seem we create our own reality and we see not what we see but rather what we believe. Ultimately I'm going to yoga class and finding my calm and centered-ness in my deepest self and trying my best to hold it throughout the day.
