Lift and Lighten: Iyengar Yoga with Jenn: Yoga Sol in Carson City, NV: May 6, 2016

Lately all the instructions in yoga class from all my lovely Carson Valley teachers have been about lifting and lightening up in some shape or form. Today it started to feel like I'm more inclined in that direction and it dawns on me how sad I've been pretty much all month since the death of Gary.  The yoga has helped, the friends have helped, the countless hours I've spent in the garden has helped and as I'm on the eve of embarking on the Journey summer tour I feel finally a deep release and a willingness to move forward and open my heart once again to the Road ahead.

Check out some of the instructions in Warrior I, starting from a very grounded stance:

lift the front shin bone away from the ankle
draw the back thighbone back towards the  hamstring and the hamstring towards the thighbone
lift your arms over head from the back body
lift the sternum and spread your collarbones
relax the front floating ribs and lift the lower back rib
lift the back of your head, soften the jaw, eyes, and inner mouth
lighten your heart

And then try all that in a handstand.
I've been doing it against the wall and pressing the back of my head to help the lift

And then try it in pinchemyerasana

And then try it in scorpion using a chair and a block

Becoming a warrior of a shiny bright heart, for real,  is cool work if you can get it. Even if its upside down, and even if the sting of a scorpion creeps in your world and bites.

Lift! Light ten! Continue in the journey
