Wellness Within: Teaching Yoga On The Grassy Knoll: February 22, 2021

The sky is blue.

The sky is blue.

If you listen closely. the song Monday, Monday by The Mamas & The Papas isn't a glorious call to Monday mornings. But if you catch the vibe of the full song, it's actually quite pleasant.

The practice of yoga is like that too. When we slow down long enough to really listen, we can better tune our tight spots. If we stop where it's sticky and thick, we won't come to see the full beauty of our bodies, nor of the practice itself. The breath and movement allow for a bigger picture, of, well, everything. And a drop of poison in the ocean isn't as potent as a drop in a thimble of water.

The very first yoga sutra "Atha Yoga Anushasanam" translated as 'here in the now, in this auspicious moment, we choose the teachings of yoga". While I wrote a whole book about the auspiciousness of any moment, the Grassy Knoll seems, for me at least, to be a more auspicious place to access the yoga. The lush grounds are soft and easy to balance, the trees provide shade, the. ocean air wafts right off the wave crest, the birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and you know what, the sky is blue. It really is.

We all “know” the sky is blue, but have you ever stopped for a long, auspicious moment and actually seen it?

We all have moments of catching deep Truths. And with practice these moments come more often, and feel deeper. Like today.
