Waking Up! Teaching Yoga at Makena Golf and Beach Club: November 23, 2021

Yoga for two at the Makena Golf and Beach Club

The Makena Golf and Beach Club just began to add yoga to their schedule, and I feel lucky that I get to be the person to usher in a new program. It’s always a learning curve to bring yoga to a new location, but there is one thing that remains constant: the yoga works.

There are not many club members who live on island, and even fewer of them around due to travel restrictions and such. Fewer numbers are, by definition, safer, especially since we are oceanfront and outside. The question of safety is rather, working to teach a safe practice, meaning all-level with all new yogis all the time. Teaching yoga in Maui always has a certain degree of visitor drops-ins, and the Club is exclusively drop ins so it’s a “box of chocolates” every class, even more than usual.

I’m learning to get better at “the pivot.”

Which is sure handy because my life is soon to make a sharp pivot from living in Maui as a yoga teacher to jumping into a Rock-and-Roll tour and being merch-hostess-assistant-gopher. It feels ironic that my book will just be coming out in time for me to re-read it and take some of my own advice.

The path of awakening is never ending, and never predictable.

Here’s our sequence this morning, where mainly we talked about waking up…in every sense of the word.
