Choose Joy! Teaching Flow and Restore at 808 Wellness: Kihei, Maui, HI: May 8, 2019
Chinese medicine says grief and sorrow live in the lungs. Therefore so does the energy of letting go. Eventually if we tap into this we find the wisdom Buddhist talk about so much: impermanence. So it makes sense to lean into things that do last forever. Like joy and happiness. Ramana Maharishi said, "happiness is the nature of the self".
Buddha said, "in the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you".
So today we practiced gentleness and aparigrapha (non-grasping sutra 2.39), moving with the breath in an effort to clear our lungs, minds, and hearts.
Here is our sequence:
Knees to Chest lung massage
Windshield wiper
Flowing seated side stretch with nadi breath massage
Shimmy
Cat and Cow
Downdog
Low Lunge
Dragon
Uttansana
Tadasana
Shake-and-Release
Tadasana
Gratitude prayer
Lunge
Warrior I
Downdog
Cobra
Balasana
Tadasana
Lunge
Twisted lunge
Triangle
Warrior II
Earth shoulder stretch
Half frog
Supported heart opener on bricks
Savasana
Sit
Namaste
One of the promises of aparigrapha is you find your purpose (dharma). I'm not sure I know this yet but I'm absolutely sure yoga is part of it. And what I do know for sure is that it does feel really good to let go and relax.
