Take It All In, Let It All Out: Teaching Flow and Restore at 808 Wellness, Kihei, Maui, HI: November 5, 2018

So happy to be teaching at 808 Wellness all winter. There was no choice but to make today’s class all about santosha.

So happy to be teaching at 808 Wellness all winter. There was no choice but to make today’s class all about santosha.

I woke up extra happy today. Just woke up like that. As the haze of my night's sleep faded I asked myself, what is that? This feeling of happiness, this feeling of ease. Its me. It feels so nice to just be me. Hello me.

The ocean helps me do that. Teaching yoga helps me do that. Happiness and contentment arise naturally by being connected to a deeper self, away from petty surface tensions. Sometimes it feels like big battles are being waged, and in my life I have a couple of doozies afoot, but they can't possibly be real. Because a little moving and a little breathing and a little yoga evaporates them like ice cubes on hot Georgia asphalt.

Watching the light at sunrise and sunset helps me be at ease with rhythms of life. The sun is my primary teacher of Santosha. Here’s last night sunset at Keawakapu Beach.

The main alignment today was santosha and sutra 2 .42 which says "from a posture of santosha, the most excellent happiness and joy is attained" Attained..arriving at a place you desire, especially after some work. Ease and contentment, happiness and joy are all within us, it just takes some effort, some clearing of untruths to see it clearly.

That’s what this class and my current real world practice is all about. Its never two different worlds, its never a split practice. That would feel like old days of trauma when I’d make one happy personality up while deep down feeling miserable. Yoga is about connecting and being real, being human. It’s not hiding or being numb to our tight spots, but being aware of them and being OK anyway. Teaching yoga for me is a misnomer, its more sharing information. Information I can’t make it a day without. This is a process that helps me work things out for myself. Oh do I feel vulnerable, oh do I feel naked. But also, I feel alive.

And super grateful I got to be here today with all these lovely yogis.

Taking it all in, Letting it all out, and doing my very best to stay steadfast in santosha.
