Newton's First Law of Motion: Yoga aboard the Mystic Traveller: Bakersfield, CA: September 16, 2017

This is what it feels like when we have to cancel a show and reroute a tour.

This is what it feels like when we have to cancel a show and reroute a tour.

Today David woke up with a sore throat. If I’d been paying closer attention yesterday, I would have noticed it coming on, but I was way to wrapped up in the KAABOO festival, the music, and the joy of opening tour day. That first downbeat of Alvino's drums and David's opening guitar lick have more adrenaline than a quadruple Carl Staub espresso.

Newton's first law of motion says an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalance force. When David gets sick, the tour comes to a grinding reverse until he's well, no matter how great the kick off. and it really messes with my mojo.

Ancient yogis understood what Newton's Law described, especially in the realm of thoughts. That’s why its so powerful to know what you’re thinking about, and that’s why its so hard to reverse thoughts.  The practices of yoga are here to help us in times like these because right now my thoughts aren't very nice. I don't even want to make him a cup of tea.

Buddha said happiness is not a set of circumstances, it is a set of attitudes. As I see disappointment, worry, and anger rise up, the yoga for today is to reverse that. Part of me knows the Universe has her reasons and a bigger plan, but here in this bus bunk I’m glad I have a little white maltese in hugging range and a recent practice of equanimity.

The practices of yoga are practical and swift.  As I write this I’m already feeling some relief as our tour bus turns around and heads home to the glorious Carson Valley.
