Feet on the Ground, Strength in the Legs, and Open in the Mind: Yoga with Sally Schuster, Carson City, NV: September 9, 2016
Sometimes I think I moved to Carson City so that I could meet and practice with Sally Schuster. I've been flexy for some time, as she's helping me get strong. She's brought awareness to parts of my body I've never seen before and shown me how to use them for an efficient body.
I don't practice yoga so I can do fancy postures, although I admit in Sally's class I'm learning to do some pretty advancing poses and it is fun! But the main reason I practice yoga is to feel more alive. Once I feel it in my own body I can take in more life outside. More capacity is more capacity.
Today I learned more about my feet. Feet that have been with me for 55 years. I've known and used my medial longitudinal arch a lot, and today Sally asked us to use the lateral longitudinal arch.
The diagram here suggests the lateral arch runs from the pinky to the heel but Sally guided us from the cuboid to the heel.
Of course this awareness changes all my standing poses, which changes my yoga, which changes my life.
