Bubbles of Joy! Teaching A Private: Wailea, HI: July 25, 2021
The Sunday yogi is a great. yogi. In the few months that we've been working together, he's gotten stretchier and steadier in his practice. Today we also added new strength postures to our repoitoire.
His young son came on the lawn from a swim on the beach. We took a break from to poses to play with him. The pure joy of their father-son relationship is spectacularly heart opening to witness. Like a dream, his son blew bubbles over us as we sat on our mats.
This is the yoga. Everyday life is the practice.
And then we went back to our cat/cows and warriors, to trikonasana and toe stretches. Of course this is a practice too. This is yoga, too. But all the sukasanas, sun salulations, and savasanas are mere preparation only for what happens off the mat.
This is evident after so many years on the mat. What was new today was a deeper study into the emotion of joy. Joy, real joy, isn’t a touch-and-go kind of feeling; it has lasting power. My whole body was infused with the heart opening feeling of being with that sweet young son and his father. It has, for me, a nice balance of bliss and grounded. Balancing on one leg was, like cake.
Come to think of it, and speaking of cake, I've been infused with joy since sunset and birthday cake four days ago. Yoga today with the Sunday yogi was like a booster shot. And it was awesome.
