Advice: Yoga with Steve at Yoga Sol: Carson City, NV: March 22, 2016

Steve's physical practice is on the hard side. But he makes it so much fun, I hardly notice. He just makes you feel good no matter how difficult the pose. What I love about Steve even more is his sharing of the dharma. He talks about things freely and openly that others tend to sugarcoat, or avoid altogether. These teachings are really what makes Steve a tough teacher...he inspires one to be a better person.

We had a short visit before class and Molly had told him I was home from tour early. "Because your friend died".  Let's talk about that.

He wove a beautiful teaching about death into the class. It wasn't a bummer, it was refreshingly honest, straighforward, and a insightful and practiced sharing of the texts in the tradition of Tibetian Buddhism.

When his mother was dying, this was the four part advice from his teacher:
Use the "d" word (death).
Have his mother give away what you don't need
Have this mother make amends
Remind her she is headed to a quiet mind (the brain dies when you die) and know you are surrounded by love beyond understanding.

"these are not instructions for how to die, but rather how to live"

Namaste
