Drop and Give Me Downdog: Yoga on the Mystic Traveler from Greensboro to Bethesda: February 21, 2016
Four days of travel and three shows on top equals a tight squeeze for this yogini. Yoga on a moving bus can be tricky to get into the tight spots because if there is a bump in the road or an unexpected turn, the momentum can take you to places too deep for comfort.
The play is to stay grounded and low and deep while moving, and coming up for more air when the ground is secure.
While on the ground today I quit fighting the heavy momentum of the ever changing conditions of the road. Pigeon, saddle, slumpy updog were delicious for long holds allowing the sway of this vehicle greater than me to soothe the tight spots. Downdog and wheel were an interesting experiment in allowing inner work to guide me to balance on my own hands and feet.
I confess there are days when I wonder if I'm where I'm supposed to be. I mean really, what the heck am I doing on a rock tour? In so many ways its the antithesis of sweet, and peace, and quiet, and fresh air and organic juice and so many things that I love.
And yet even these things seem petty and surface as I undertake the internal study of what it for real feels like to let go totally and feel the path carry me safely, quietly, easily out of my tight spots and into the next show where there is much work to do.
